Our History
Saint Mark United Methodist Church is the result of the merger of several other United Methodist congregations of great historical significance in the South Carolina Annual Conference. Those churches were Canaan Chapel, Saint James, Wesley Chapel, and Harris Chapel. As noted by great Historians, the history of black people is rooted in the oral traditions. This is true of the journey of the trailblazers, our fore parents, who transcended barriers and burdens to ensure that the rich legacy of a people of great faith continued to be told.
Senior Pastor
Reverend Dr. Marvin A. Moss
The Reverend Dr. Marvin Anthony Moss was appointed by Bishop Jonathan Holston, Resident Bishop of the South Carolina Annual Conference, as the lead pastor of Saint Mark United Methodist Church in North, South Carolina, effective July 1, 2023. Prior to being appointed to St. Mark, he served as the Senior Pastor of the historic Salem United Methodist Church in Harlem, New York. His mission is Kingdom Building: Growing, Sustaining, and Revitalizing – ensuring congregations and leaders move forward in the work and will of God. Dr. Moss led the effort of restoring the historic Salem UMC back to her prominence. During his nine years there, he worked diligently to return Salem to being a beacon of hope in the village of Harlem and ensuring its path to returning to its status as a vital congregation. – LEARN MORE
